12/30 LWA Reopening Plan

posted Dec 30, 2020, 6:12 AM by Isaiah Rocine

Dear Parents and Students,

Living Word Academy will resume classes, online, on January 4th.  Classes will be online January 4th and 5th.  In-person classes will resume on Wednesday, January 6th

Onondaga County will be present at the Academy on Wednesday, January 6th to provide COVID testing to teachers, staff, and students.  Similar to the last time the County provided testing, anyone who wants to get tested will have to sign up ahead of time via a web link.  We will provide the link when the County sends it to us in the next few days.

What time will testing start?

Testing should begin about 8am and be finished by 10am.  Students can arrive to school as they usually do and wait for testing to begin.  Regular classes will proceed the rest of the day after testing, so please send your students to school that day and plan for them to stay after.

Can I take my children home after the testing?

School will be open for typical in-person instruction after the testing, so we expect your children to stay for the rest of the day.

Where will testing take place?

Testing will take place in the Living Word Church lobby, using the same process as last time.

What testing kits will be used?

The testing kits used will be the same as well (no deep swabs).

Can I come in with my child for their test?

Yes, you can come in with your child(ren) when they are getting tested.

Who should get tested?

Testing is not mandatory, but we strongly urge everyone to get tested.  Doing so will help us prevent the potential spread of COVID and school to remain open for in-person instruction.

If you have any COVID symptoms, even if they are mild, please do not come for testing on January 6th.  Symptoms include:

 Fever or chills

Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Muscle or body aches

New loss of taste or smell

Sore throat

Congestion or runny nose

Nausea or vomiting

If you (or your child) have tested positive for COVID in the last 12 weeks you are not required to be COVID tested.

If you do not want to get your children tested, they may still return to school for the time being, but at some point in the future they may be required to get tested for us to maintain in-person instruction.  But again, we strongly urge you to get tested so that we do not risk the unnecessary spread of the virus and school being forced to go remote again.

Feel free to reach out with additional questions.
