There will be COVID testing at Living Word Academy on Monday 3/8 from 8 to 10 am.  Testing is not mandatory, unless a student is on a JV or Varsity Volleyball team, but we are encouraging everyone to register for testing.  Please do not register if you have already had COVID in the last 12 weeks, including Volleyball athletes.  All details will be identical to the last two times (location, method, etc).  The link for registration is here:

You must register by noon on Sunday 3/7 to get tested.  At that point the registration link will close.  The appointment time you register for does not matter and is NOT the time you should come.  Testing is set to begin at 8am and will be done by 10am.  You can send your children in as you normally do and we will bring them over for testing on your behalf.

You will need the school address and phone number to complete your registration.  They are:

6101 Court St. Rd.

Syracuse, NY 13206

315-437-6744

When you are asked for the occupation you can enter “student” for students and “staff” for staff.

1/20/21: LWA COVID Testing Registration for 1/25/21

Hi Parents and Students,

There will be COVID testing at Living Word Academy on Monday 1/25/21 from 8-10am.  This is testing the school is required to perform every 2 weeks.  We are encouraging everyone to register for testing.  All details will be identical to the last two times (location, method, etc).  The link for registration is here:

https://covid19.ongov.net/appointments/school-registration-form/

You must register by noon on Sunday 1/24/21 to get tested.  At that point the registration link will close.  The appointment time you register for does not matter and is NOT the time you should come.  Testing is set to begin at 8am and will be done by 10am.  You can send your children in as you normally do and we will bring them over for testing on your behalf.

Testing is not mandatory, but we would strongly encourage you to get tested and are trusting that everyone will sign up.  Last time we had a terrific turnout, thank you!  If all staff and students are tested, we can be sure that the likelihood of having to go remote again is greatly reduced.  If students are not tested it increases the chances that we will have to go remote again.

You will need the school address and phone number to complete your registration.  They are:

1/6/21 LWA COVID Testing Results

posted Jan 6, 2021, 12:39 PM by Isaiah Rocine

Dear Parents, Staff, and Students,

I’m happy to share results with you from the COVID testing that took place at Living Word Academy today.

95% of students and staff were tested today, have already had COVID and don't need to test, or will get tested on their own outside of school before returning to school.

75% of our students opted to attend school today after testing and about 20% more should be back in school in the next week or so.

99% of the people tested today came up with a negative result.  There were 2 positive results, who were members of the same family.

Based on the encouraging results today school will remain open for in-person instruction.

A few important notes/reminders:

1.       PLEASE return your Chromebooks AND CHARGERS to school ASAP.  We have been doing great returning Chromebooks, but we are missing many chargers.

2.      Please continue to monitor yourselves for COVID symptoms and stay home if you have any, even if they are mild.  Please contact the health office with any questions about how symptoms should be handled.

3.  Given the increase in COVID locally we are requiring students who are home sick with COVID symptoms to have a negative COVID test before returning to school.  Contact the school health office with any questions about where you can get testing done.

As always, feel free to reach out with questions or concerns.

12/31 LWA COVID Testing Registration Link

Hi Parents and Students,

The link to register for COVID testing at Living Word Academy on Wednesday, January 7th is here:

https://covid19.ongov.net/appointments/school-registration-form/

You must register by noon on Tuesday, January 5th to get tested.  At that point the registration link will close.

We did not make testing mandatory for students to return to in-person instruction, but we would strongly encourage you to get tested and are trusting that everyone will sign up.  If all staff and students are tested, we can be sure that the likelihood of having to go remote again is greatly reduced.  If students are not tested it increases the chances that we will have to go remote again.

The appointment time you register for does not matter and is NOT the time you should come.  Testing is set to begin at 8am and will be done by 10am.  You can send your children in as you normally do and we will bring them over for testing on your behalf.  If your last name begins with “N-Z” and you can bring your children at 9am for testing that would help us avoid bottle necks.

12/30 LWA Reopening Plan

posted Dec 30, 2020, 6:12 AM by Isaiah Rocine

Dear Parents and Students,

Living Word Academy will resume classes, online, on January 4th.  Classes will be online January 4th and 5th.  In-person classes will resume on Wednesday, January 6th

Onondaga County will be present at the Academy on Wednesday, January 6th to provide COVID testing to teachers, staff, and students.  Similar to the last time the County provided testing, anyone who wants to get tested will have to sign up ahead of time via a web link.  We will provide the link when the County sends it to us in the next few days.

What time will testing start?

Testing should begin about 8am and be finished by 10am.  Students can arrive to school as they usually do and wait for testing to begin.  Regular classes will proceed the rest of the day after testing, so please send your students to school that day and plan for them to stay after.

Can I take my children home after the testing?

School will be open for typical in-person instruction after the testing, so we expect your children to stay for the rest of the day.

Where will testing take place?

Testing will take place in the Living Word Church lobby, using the same process as last time.

What testing kits will be used?

The testing kits used will be the same as well (no deep swabs).

Can I come in with my child for their test?

Yes, you can come in with your child(ren) when they are getting tested.

Who should get tested?

Testing is not mandatory, but we strongly urge everyone to get tested.  Doing so will help us prevent the potential spread of COVID and school to remain open for in-person instruction.

If you have any COVID symptoms, even if they are mild, please do not come for testing on January 6th.  Symptoms include:

 Fever or chills

Cough

Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Fatigue

Muscle or body aches

Headache

New loss of taste or smell

Sore throat

Congestion or runny nose

Nausea or vomiting

Diarrhea

If you (or your child) have tested positive for COVID in the last 12 weeks you are not required to be COVID tested.

If you do not want to get your children tested, they may still return to school for the time being, but at some point in the future they may be required to get tested for us to maintain in-person instruction.  But again, we strongly urge you to get tested so that we do not risk the unnecessary spread of the virus and school being forced to go remote again.

Feel free to reach out with additional questions.

12/13 COVID Quarantine Update

posted Dec 9, 2020, 12:20 PM by Isaiah Rocine   [ updated Dec 13, 2020, 4:33 PM ]

Dear parents and students,

There have been some new positive cases of COVID at Living Word Academy.  This means additional quarantines for specific students and staff.  In an effort to simplify some things there is a table attached below that lists grades/students who are now in quarantine, along with their start, end, and release date from quarantine.  For directions on how to properly quarantine please see prior posts on www.lwasyr.org.

If your child has tested positive for COVID in the last 12 weeks they do not need to quarantine.

The County Health Department recommends getting a COVID test for your child 5-7 days after the Quarantine Start Date listed above. A list of sites can be found on www.ongov.net, as well as other helpful information on quarantines.

The County Health Department will be calling to follow up with you about your exposure/quarantine and uses an unlisted number, so please pick up calls from a number, even if it is unlisted.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

LWA going remote until 1/4

posted Dec 7, 2020, 5:16 PM by Isaiah Rocine

Dear parents, students, and staff,

Due to new positive COVID cases we have decided it would be best for all grades at Living Word Academy to go remote until after Christmas Break.  We will return to school on Monday, January 4th.

School will be open tomorrow 12/8, and you may even send in your children who are in Pre-K through 2nd grade or 4th-6th grade if you are scrambling to make child care arrangements.

The building will also be open for anyone who would like to pick up school supplies for their children.  You may call the office, ring the ramp door buzzer, or call/text me if you need to come in and pick up supplies.
